Different Types of Abrasive Media

Abrasives are materials with a certain roughness and volume that enable the processing of other materials by eroding the material itself. For instance, among the most typical actions that abrasive particles can perform is polishing a surface or part of a surface. Additionally, these can be utilised for a variety of different purposes.

Abrasives are classed based on their hardness, particle size, and material composition. Each of these variables has an effect on the outcome. Selecting the appropriate abrasive is critical to achieving the intended effect.

It is well established that when two materials come into an encounter, one can degrade the other. Abrasive would be any substance that is used to finish and shape a working material by roughening, polishing, and rubbing. It results in the working material being worn out by pressure.

What Constitutes Abrasive Composition?

Abrasives can be made of natural or synthetic materials, and their level of toughness is what makes them unique. Minerals that are small or can be made into small pieces are called grit.  Diamond is the toughest abrasive material that is both natural and man-made. Other materials like mobybdelum wire, carbide, corundum, and others can be both natural and man-made, but their level of tensile strength can't be compared to diamond.

The following are examples of naturally occurring abrasives:

  • The mineral Calcite (calcium carbonate)
  • Emery's (impure corundum)
  • a finely ground diamond
  • Novaculite
  • Pumice
  • Rouge
  • Sand
  • Garnet
  • Sandstone
  • Tripoli
  • Feldspar powder

Artificial Abrasives

  • The Borazon (cubic boron nitride or CBN)
  • Ceramic
  • Cobalt-based alloys
  • The iron oxide in ceramics.
  • The precious metal corundum (alumina or aluminum oxide)
  • A substance is known as "dry ice"
  • The steel abrasive
  • Carbide of silicon (carborundum)
  • Zirconia-alumina ceramic
  • Boron carbide is a chemical compound
  • Slags

Best Abrasives Media to Use

We have mentioned different types of Abrasives Media Below:

#1. Aluminum Oxide

Surface preparation equipment uses aluminum oxide because of its great durability and reusability. Aluminum oxide is used in granulating haggles wheels, coated abrasives (paper and cloth), and sand blasting abrasives. Aluminum oxides remove rust, mill scale, paint, and carbon storage quickly.

Aluminum Oxide is commonly used in abrasive blasting devices, such as sand blasting, shot blasting, and grit blasting, to finish workpieces. Aluminum Oxide can be used to remove impurities, corrosion, prior coatings, change the look, and smooth or roughen the surface. We manufacture top quality

There are 3 types of Aluminum Oxide

  • White Aluminum Oxide
  • Black Aluminum Oxide
  • Brown Aluminum Oxide

#2. Glass Beads

Glass Beads Manufacturers and Suppliers in India. Glass beads are solid glass balls with low thermal expansion and good strength. Take a look at India's glass bead. We also have additional items at low pricing. Glass beads are used for grit blasting machines, metalizing spray wire, flame spray guns, and good flowability made of colorless glass.

We are the leading glass bead suppliers in India. To avoid degrading the metal basis and leaving infiltration inside the surface, the glass beads in India give a surprise shallow wrap. We also have Micro glass beads composed of 70% SiO2 high-grade soda-lime-silica glass.

#3. Abrasive Garnet

Abrasive Garnet is a mineral grating made of almandine garnet. Due to its low free silica content, the abrasive Garnet grating is now widely known for waterjet cutting. It's a class Sa3 White Metal wrap-up from one of the leading Abrasive garnet manufacturers Sand Blasting Hopper. There are no metals or possibly hazardous parts in garnet particles.

Garnet sand is extensively used in jet cutting and sand/grit blasting. The particles of garnet sand are thick, sharp, complex, and free of heavy metals. Abrasive Garnet sand enables for 5-8 times recycling and has a high density for fast crushing.

#4. Steel Shots

The force of blasting actually further tempers the shot, increasing its hardness over time, allowing the medium to offer consistent, repeatable execution across thousands of cycles. It also produces virtually no dust due to its low breakdown rate. Steel Shot is used for heavy scouring and highly bright finishes. Steel shots and grits are safe as received. The thin steel dust created might also cause minor explosions. Steel shot blasting is the most extensively used method for cleaning, stripping, and upgrading metal surfaces.

#5. Cut Wire Shots

In order to build Cut Wire Shot, we use high-quality wire cut to a length corresponding to the diameter of the wire. As well as metal alloy wires such as copper and aluminium in the form of cut wire shoots.

For shot peening, cleaning, tumbling, and vibratory finishing, Cut Wire Shot is the media of choice. Shot blasting machine equipment commonly uses this type of equipment. In addition to stainless steel, our product is typically purchased as-cut (cylindrical with sharp edges) or conditioned, depending on the customer's preference (rounded to a sphere).

#6. Silicon Carbide

This material has excellent thermal conductivity, low thermal expansion, and is resistant to acid corrosion. Silicon carbide grit is a suitable ceramic material for high temperature and abrasion resistance. As a result, it can be used in spray nozzles, sand blasting nozzles, and cyclone parts. Silicon Carbide Grit (SiC) is a man-made mineral that is 7.5 times stronger than Al2O3 at 1000°C.

Silicon carbide grit is a precious stone network of carbon and silicon tetrahedra. a rough substance

#7. Molybdenum Wire

Molybdenum Wire has remarkable sliding properties and wears resistance, molybdenum wire is commonly used in automotive and equipment components.

We produce molybdenum splash wire utilizing powder metallurgy. Because our materials are pure, our clients can benefit from very effective covering measures that produce extraordinarily homogenous and solid results.

#8. PS Balls

Precious Slag Ball aka PS Ball is a great slag atomizing product. It's called precious since it's made from worthless waste into a new substance. Professionals have demonstrated that it is an eco-friendly product with a stable spinet structure by quick air and mist cooling. They are made from supercooled steel slag. It's a fun and interesting product that's robust and durable. Its outstanding properties make it useful for a wide range of applications, the most common being surface preparation of steel prior to painting. PS Ball is non-toxic and meets all environmental requirements because it does not include Free Silica. It has greater compressive strength, hardness, and anti-weathering properties than copper slag.

#9. Steel Grit

Steel Grit is used in steel stripping, blasting, and foundry metals. Steel grit's high firmness and microstructure provide maximum impact energy transmission. Steel grit is made by crushing, screening, and hardening abrasive material. These abrasive Steel Grits are used in wheel machines and impact rooms where spouts are used in air impacting. Their keen blades easily clean, carve, and polish the hitting surface.
